Project Finance Manager
Our client is a leading renewable energy company in Africa. They are a market leader specializing in developing, owning, and operating utility-scale renewable energy projects in Africa, with a strong focus on solar, wind, and battery energy storage solutions.
Job Purpose
The Manager/Senior Manager (Project Finance) is responsible for managing financial modelling, supporting fund-raising activities, and handling internal approvals and coordination for project developments and refinancing. The role also involves building and maintaining relationships with financial institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing the financing strategy to execute infrastructure project investments. This will include collaborating with internal team and external advisors on due diligence, lender engagements, financial and commercial review, preparation of presentation material to pitch for investment.
- Oversee the development, utilization, and dissection of financial models to analyse project opportunities and conduct valuations both at a project and overall shareholder level.
- Identify potential project opportunities and available project financing for the same.
- Assist in the ongoing management of investments, including ongoing interaction with other teams and manage the relationship with stakeholders.
- Lead Project Finance related work for bid projects, including financial model, getting term sheets from lenders, bid optimisation, etc.
- Develop understanding of commercial and contractual implications under various contracts, specifically for Project Financing.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of financial models and other economic analysis to price infrastructure projects (water, power, social infrastructure, etc).
- Perform economic analyses for potential M&A opportunities - evaluating the attractiveness of projects and facilitating the development of a purchase price.
- Review and negotiate all Financing Documents (i.e., Loan Agreement, Equity Contribution Agreement, Accounts Agreement, Direct Agreements, Letter of Credits)
- Supervise Due Diligence process with lenders and consultants (Legal, Market, Technical, Insurances, Tax and Financial Model)
- Support projects key decisions.
- Support the closing process of transactions, which includes modelling analysis and audits, responding to questions from counterparties, and preparation of documentation.
- Prepare financial analyses and presentations for senior management and committee meetings.
- Follow industry trends and activities such as power pricing, regulatory or financial incentives and structured financing transactions
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering; preference for advanced degrees such as MBA, CA, or CFA.
Experience:
Minimum 4-6 years of experience in the project finance with developers/investors/funds, international banks, or similar financial advisory firms
Skills:
- Proven track record in building and managing financial models, ideally within developers, banks, financial institutions, or consultancies.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
- Knowledge of project finance is preferred.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence investors and lenders effectively.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
