Our Client is a leading Japanese integrated investment group. Operating across the Middle East and Africa, the company focuses on a diverse range of sectors including power infrastructure, energy (including renewables), transportation systems, and metal products. In the region, they are actively involved in the development, financing, and operation of large-scale infrastructure projects such as power plants, water desalination facilities, and railway systems—often in partnership with governments and private sector entities. The corporation emphasizes long-term, sustainable growth through strategic investments and technology-driven solutions.

About the role

The BD Senior Manager, working with the BD team, shall drive all project development efforts for selected projects until Financial Close. The BD Senior manager shall also identify, research, evaluate and pursue business development opportunities that will contribute to the company's short and long-term business objectives. Furthermore, the BD Senior Manager shall assist in defining bidding strategies for IPP/IWPP opportunities including the negotiations of agreements with all stakeholders

Responsibilities-

Project Development

  • Prepare or assist in preparation of initial investment or screening memos for internal approvals.
  • Assist in developing, structuring, and negotiating all aspects of the considered projects, including but not limited to all project agreements such as PPA, EPC, LTSA, OMA, SHA, and Financing Documents
  • Assist in negotiations/discussions with potential partners/investors about their interest in partnering with the Company in selected projects. Prepare and negotiate partnership and/or shareholder agreements with partners/investor
  • Assist in providing necessary inputs to help build, develop and/or run financial models. Prepare necessary sensitivity analyses or scenarios for internal approval purposes or for external stakeholders.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team (at all levels) involved in the considered projects
  • Handover project to asset management for further execution, construction, and operations
  • Manage acquisition negotiation processes of targeted opportunities

Business Development

  • Contribute to drive business growth and profitability by identifying and evaluating acquisition, joint venture, plant expansion, and greenfield/brownfield project development opportunities within corporate objectives and guidelines
  • Considered technologies are all renewables, gas and related infrastructure investments in the Company's target region that includes Africa, Middle East, CIS and South Asia (incl. Bangladesh)
  • Goal setting, prioritizing activities, investment activities and contribute to drive change
  • Conducts market research activities using open or specialised information sources, conferences, and professional networks to create business leads
  • Contribute and/or lead due diligence evaluations and presents findings to the HQ based management

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or related field
  • A Master's degree in a related field would be preferred
  • 5-7 years of relevant business development experience
  • Hands-on experience of financial modelling and running sensitivity/scenario analyses.
  • Experience in an energy company or contractor leading international acquisitions, formation of joint venture partnerships, development of greenfield/brownfield power generation facilities, and arranging associated non/limited-recourse debt financing for such ventures
  • Familiarity and structuring / negotiation experience with commercial agreements and financing documentation
  • Business experience with diverse power generation technologies and understanding of associated competitive advantages, operational / financial risks, and project financing considerations
  • I(W)PP transactional, business development, and/or management experience in multiple developing and industrialized countries in particular in the company's target region, e.g. GCC, Middle East, CIS and Africa
  • Familiarity with international legal/regulatory, tax, accounting, and other matters relevant for financial, commercial, and contractual structuring of power plants, partnerships / joint ventures, and acquisitions
  • Experience with structuring and preparing commercial bid proposals for power-, power to X- and water plant development / acquisition, either in response to competitive tender processes or negotiated transaction opportunities

  • Strong interpersonal, listening, written and oral communications and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in project teams located across multiple locations, cultures and time zones
  • Ability to develop and maintain successful business relationships across diverse international business environments
  • Advanced cultural awareness/sensitivity and ability to manage internal employees and external advisor/consultant and joint venture partner staff of diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to represent the company professionally and interact effectively at all organizational levels with external parties (including Board of Directors/executive management and senior government officials)
  • Ability to travel domestically and overseas as needed
  • Foreign language capabilities and business experience in markets of current / planned company operations an advantage.
