Location: Cape Town (South Africa)
Our client is a leading renewable energy company in Africa. They are a market leader specializing in developing, owning, and operating utility-scale renewable energy projects in Africa, with a strong focus on solar, wind, and battery energy storage solutions.
Main Purpose of Role
The Manager will work on the initiation of new projects and lead the development of the new/existing projects towards financial close.
Job Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Business Development team, assist in shaping and implementing IPH's wider Business Development Strategy for new and existing markets and sectors.
- Originate project development and M&A opportunities in existing and new markets and in new sectors (such as Commercial & Industrial).
- Identify potential Government tenders to participate in, leading the review of tender requirements and submission of responses.
- Originate new partnership opportunities in target markets.
- Market analysis, competitive analysis and project screening.
- Lead development of projects to financial close, ensuring close cooperation with finance, the financial modelling team, legal, HR, technical and operational teams.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring costs stay within limits while achieving project goals.
- Working with legal and finance, lead the negotiation of documentation including Offtake Agreements, JDA Term sheet, JDAs, Shareholder Agreements and Share Purchase Agreements.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impacts on the project.
- Working closely with internal & external stakeholders, support the due diligence process for M&A and Project Finance transactions, including the negotiation of key project documents (PPAs, SPAs), Finance Agreements etc.
- Team Coordination: Lead and coordinate project teams, assigning tasks and monitoring progress, for bids and for bilateral opportunities.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain detailed project documentation and provide regular reports to stakeholders on progress and challenges.
- Coordinating due diligence, reviewing data rooms, supporting valuation and offer preparation for project acquisitions and financial close.
- Draft and co-ordinate internal reports and investment papers representing the project deal for all internal approvals up to board level and support internal and external presentations.
- Networking: Attend industry events, conferences, and networking functions to connect with potential clients and partners.
Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications
- Academic Degree- Minimum degree level qualified, Project management
- Experience- A minimum of 7 years relevant experience in renewable energy sector, Experience within power industry, renewable energy sector within South Africa market would be essential. Experience in leading project financed utility scale projects to Financial Close would be an advantage. Able to travel throughout Southern Africa
